Pediatric Audiology

Children have special needs for hearing assessment. Some children have had ear infections, or they may have received ear tubes. Other children have difficulty attending in the classroom. Still others may have been exposed to loud music at concerts or through MP3/headphone player use. Children that require hearing instruments need special consideration in the classroom and in the home. We can see your child (from age 2 ½ years and older), quickly and efficiently, with experience and compassion.

What is vertigo?

Vertigo is the distressing sensation of spinning while standing still. A person with vertigo feels that he is spinning or that the room is spinning. It may last for seconds, hours, or days. When a patient is told she has vertigo, it is not a diagnosis but rather a symptom. A commonly-prescribed drug such as Antivert (Meclizine) may mask the feeling or cause fatigue, but it will not fix the problem. The key to helping the person with vertigo is to answer the question: “What is the cause?” Testing is needed to find the reason and get the proper help for the patient.
